This online driver's education course consists of 30 hours of instruction and includes components about alcohol safety, drug abuse awareness, aggressive driving, distracted driving, pedestrian and bicycle safety, handicapped parking, fuel-efficient driving practices, motorcycle awareness and organ and tissue donation awareness as required by law.

You must be at least 15 years and 6 months old to take the online driver's education course.

90 Minute Parent Component Session As of July 1, 2025, Virginia General Assembly (Senate bill 78) requires all students under the age of 18 to complete this component.

Proof of completion of the 90-minute Parent/Student Presentation must be provided before certificate of completion for the Online Driver’s Education Course is issued.

Important notice:  In order to benefit from this course, you must be able to work independently and be comfortable with using a computer.

Instructions for Taking the Online Course: 

Once a payment is received, you will receive an email from unclegerisdrivingacademy@gmail.com with the direct link to the online course, the 90-minute video, and DMV form DTS 62, which must be completed and returned before access to the final exam This link allows you to return to your online sessions at any time to complete the course at your own pace.

Testing Procedures:

The student will complete the final exam by contacting Uncle Geri’s Driving Academy at (804) 251-0102.  On the day of testing, you must bring the following to our test site: a laptop, photo identification (DMV issued identification card, school-issued identification card, valid passport or military identification). No photo identification, no testing. 

If you are under age 18, you will need a completed "Parental Consent for Online Driver Education Examination" (DTS 62). Our instructor will check your identification, verify that you have completed the course online, direct you to a computer, and then grant you access to take the online final exam. The final exam consists of 50 multiple choice questions. Open book testing is not permitted. The exam grades itself and reveals the final exam results. If the student passes the course, the instructor will give the certificate of completion to the student. If the student fails the examination, the student will be allowed to review any section of the completed course to prepare to take the examination again on another day. After the second test failure, there will be a retest fee of $20 to test a third time.

Registration Fee:

The $25.00 registration fee covers the administrative costs associated with processing Department of Motor Vehicle (DMV) paperwork, including the preparation and submission of required documents. It also includes the filing of your license, certification documents and any applicable payment processing fees, ensuring that all necessary steps are completed efficiently and in compliance with state regulations.
